The color palette

Classic & elegant. Dreamlight tones are cool, contain grey and, while delicate, are not necessarily light. They are soft and subtle. Examples are maroon, rose pink, grapefruit, sage, viridian, dove grey, Air Force blue, delphinium, lavender. They are characterized by understated elegance, cool, calm poise, graceful, upmarket, timeless, expensive, soothing, aspirational. Negatively they may be interpreted as draining, unfriendly, aloof, elitist, and ‘wishy-washy’.

The archetype

Imagine yourself in an English garden just after lunch on a hot mid-summer day. By this time,  the heat has changed the brightness and buoyancy of spring colors into soft muted ones. As you basque in the heat, you have a sense that nature is softer, somewhat muted, quieter. The buzzing of insects is almost ‘behind the scenes’ as everything and everyone tries to conserve energy and keep cool. Nature is calm, cool and collected.

 

The Dreamlight personality is like this too: quiet, gentle and sometimes shy – but basically, calm, cool and collected. As a Dreamlight, you are likely to prefer to keep away from the limelight and work quietly behind the scenes, where you are particularly good at nurturing and listening. Your seriousness and sense of responsibility, combined with gentle nurturing, make you a wonderful parent. Constant and dependable, comforting and reassuring, Dreamlights are natural peacemakers whose gentle sympathy is very soothing.

 

Dreamlight personalities are perfectionists, and can often feel unfulfilled because of the high standards they strive to obtain. And yet, Dreamlights are also highly intuitive.

 

Socializing for a Dreamlight has a formal quality: you hate anything flashy or vulgar, and surround yourself with timeless elegance. This may include classical music and ballet, for example.

 

Dreamlights tend to be conservative and reserved. You have deep feelings, which you may find difficult to express despite your excellent diplomatic skills. However, the greatest challenge for a Dreamlight may well be a lack of spontaneity, which, combined with an ability to be objective, can make you seem cool, aloof or even snobbish.

 

Subordinate personality styles

Although the theory is that we each identify with a particular archetypal color palette, the reality is that, given that we are each unique, a pure archetype is rarely found. This is to say, it is rare to find a person who would have chosen all Dreamlight answers, for example, on our color test. The one to which you had the second most number of answers is your subordinate personality style.

 

As Angela Wright, creator of the Colour Affects system reminds us, “although each of us falls absolutely into one of the patterns, we are all tempered by subordinate influences of another pattern. So, for example, the influence of Morninglight could make the expressions of a basically Firelight pattern lighter, both visually and in the personality, than the archetype. One could be quite attracted to Morninglight perfumes, plenty of light, blonde wood and lots of plants growing in the home, but still be linked absolutely to Firelight.”

 

With this in mind, here are the characteristics and effects of each subordinate influences on the Dreamlight personality:

 

Pure Dreamlight

You are serious, quiet, and earn success through concentration and thoroughness. You are practical, orderly, matter of fact, logical, realistic and dependable. You see to it that everything is well organized. You like to make up your own mind as to what should be accomplished and work towards it steadily, regardless of protests and distractions.

 

Morninglight subordinate

You thrive in situations requiring common sense, practical skills and the ability to deal with people. You remember facts easier than understand theories. You are more outgoing than a Pure Dreamlight.

 

Firelight subordinate

You are painstakingly accurate and thorough. You work devotedly to fulfill your duties. Your patience with detail, your devotion, and sense of responsibility, combined with a genuine concern for other people gives stability to groups or projects. You are loyal, perceptive and considerate.

 

Starlight subordinate

You are practical and mechanically skilled. Activities absorb you deeply, so friends may take second place. You are good at problem solving and think well on your feet. You are adaptable and tolerant, but long explanations bore you. Your personal values are quite conservative.
