The color palette
Earthy & traditional. Firelight tones are warm, intense and fiery. They contain black in their mixing (e.g. olive green is yellow mixed with black) but black itself does not belong in this group. Examples of the colours are described as tomato red, burnt orange, rust, butter yellow, leaf green, olive, teal blue, peacock, and aubergine. The characteristics are warm and friendly, traditional, solid, substantial, reliable, earthy, environmentally aware. They can also express iconoclasm and a certain flamboyance. Misused, these tones can convey heavy, old-fashioned, boring predictability and bossiness.
The personality: flamboyant
Key Characteristics
Flamboyant, fiery, energetic, campaigner, curious, loyal, lovable, efficient, intense, idealistic.
The archetype
Imagine yourself at a country farm at harvest time, in the autumn. The harvest and all the abundance it entails strikes you as one last, grand burst of energy before the earth settles in for the winter. With it, leaves begin turning fiery reds and golds, in a final gesture of defiance, as they softly fall to the ground, covering the earth with their warmth.
That same flamboyant energy belongs to you, who, as a Firelight, are warm, friendly loyal and lovable. You are independent and intensely energetic – an energy for which you must find a satisfying outlet.
Firelights are externally motivated and strongly influenced by, as as well as interested in, people – which makes you an excellent leader and a wonderful campaigner, always ready to champion the underdog.
Your insatiable curiosity is wonderfully paired with a love of finding out how and why things work. You are a good organizer, strong and efficient. Often skilled with language, you love learning and new ideas. Although you enjoy working on projects, you tend to take on too much, though you somehow manage to get it all done.
You also have an intensity that can be exhausting. For instance, social events can be stimulating, but intense, often including philosophical debates – nothing better to you than to curl up in front of the fire with friends for a deep conversation after a good meal!
While you like your home to be cozy and inviting – everyone is welcome to visit you – you also like it to be enclosed, as you value a certain amount of solitude.
You are idealistic, and not likely to be materialistic. However, you can sometimes be judgmental, temperamental and moody. You may also be seen as bossy, rebellious or unpredictable.
Subordinate personality styles
Although the theory is that we each identify with a particular archetypal color palette, the reality is that, given that we are each unique, a pure archetype is rarely found. This is to say, it is rare to find a person who would have chosen all Firelight answers, for example, on our color test. The one to which you had the second most number of answers is your subordinate personality style.
As Angela Wright, creator of the Colour Affects system reminds us, “although each of us falls absolutely into one of the patterns, we are all tempered by subordinate influences of another pattern. So, for example, the influence of Morninglight could make the expressions of a basically Firelight pattern lighter, both visually and in the personality, than the archetype. One could be quite attracted to Morninglight perfumes, plenty of light, blonde wood and lots of plants growing in the home, but still be linked absolutely to Firelight.”
With this in mind, here are the characteristics and effects of each subordinate influences on the Firelight personality:
Pure Firelight
You are loyal, enthusiastic, but too absorbed in what you are doing to be sociable, and reserved until you know people well. You enjoy working on projects and tend to take on too much, but somehow get everything done. Often skilled at language, you love learning and new ideas. You are idealistic and not likely to be materialistic.
Dreamlight subordinate
Retiring, quietly friendly, sensitive and kind, you are modest about your abilities. You dislike disagreements and do not force your opinions on others. You are often relaxed about getting things done, because you enjoy the present moment and do not want to spoil it by undue haste or exertion.
Starlight subordinate
Your prime interest is in things that tangibly affect other people’s lives. Your need for harmony means you like to improve the lot of others. Your popularity, kind heart and conscientiousness make you an active committee member. You are cooperative, but not good at keeping the peace, if an issue is important to you.
Morninglight subordinate
You are popular, sociable, sympathetic and respond strongly to criticism and praise. You care about other people’s feelings and needs, which makes you responsible and responsive. Your tact and excellent communication skills enable you to present a proposal or lead discussions comfortably.
