susangoebelweb Susan Goebel

Art has always been a strong part of Susan’s personal identity. She enjoys various artistic endeavors, such as painting, dancing, gardening, costume design and wood carving -- but when she discovered clay, she truly felt she had found her language of authentic expression. The fluid motion that can be portrayed with handbuilt porcelain intrigues her. She often thinks of the effects of wind or water movement when forming pieces out of thin slabs of porcelain. In fact, much of Susan’s inspiration is found in nature - an unusual stone, seedpod or leaf often rests by her kitchen sink or on her desk, adding subtle inspiration to the creation of items large and small, such as the porcelain leaves she has made for our very own Eve’s Apple Tote. Susan lives and works in Sandy, OR, and can be reached at the Garden Gate Studio, 503 668-7196. E-mail her at: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. tdm Teresa Dane Marcel

It seems to run in her family, or at least with the women in her family: Teresa’s mother, grandmother, aunt, sisters all sew, crochet, knit, bead or garden - so what could be more natural for her than to create things with her hands? For more about Teresa, see About Us.

kywisdomKaren Yowell

Since childhood Karen has expressed herself through various artistic forms, including pen and ink drawing, pottery and embroidery. In 2002, she added jewelry making to that list, and it has become an all-consuming passion! As a life-long rock collector, it’s only natural that her hobby has translated into a love of stones of all kinds and an interest in learning all she can about the materials she works with.

The Bead Gypsy designs are created primarily with semi-precious stones and natural materials such as freshwater pearls, wood, bone, and leather, using a variety of wire wrapping, stringing and knotting techniques. Karen enjoys incorporating focal pieces of fused or lampworked glass by local and international artists. With every piece of jewelry that leaves her bench, her goal is to present an heirloom quality piece that will be enjoyed by the wearer for many years to come.
